Dear Parents
It seems as though no sooner are we back at school than we have another mini break. This week is a wonderful long weekend for most of us. School will only resume on Wednesday next week as Monday is a school holiday. However not all of us are that lucky, some will be leaving on tour earlier than others.
The Grade 11 group collected the most money for the Swimathon so they are getting this Friday off but leave for their climb in the Drakensburg this weekend. We wish them well as they make this special journey. Remember to wrap up warmly as it is going to get cold.
The rest of the tours from Grade 5 – 8 will be leaving on Wednesday. This could cause bigger traffic problems than normal so please be patient or get here earlier. The Grade 9 and 10 groups will once again be doing day tours as this format has proved very successful in the past.
The traffic has again been reported as being an ever increasing problem. The development committee has investigated various alternatives. One of the plans entails us spending R3 million to upgrade entrances and roads etc. Personally I would like to spend that money (if we had it) on things that really make a difference in the lives of the children. We have spoken to the Council to change the lane structure outside the school but have had no response (if somebody has some strings to pull, please help us). In the meantime please just be considerate of each other and most importantly of the children. When you analyse the situation it is really only for the 20 minutes from about 7:10 – 7:30 each day that the problem exists. Please be patient.
The College held two very successful Open Days this past week. If we were to take all those interested in the College we would be full for next year. This means that if you have a child that you are still wanting to bring to the school you need to get the application forms in as soon as possible. It appears as though we will be starting to run waiting lists for all grade next year.
The PTA has issued the Car Raffle books and already many children have brought their sold books back. Thank you for that response. We will be running this until the middle of May.
After this weeks’ weather a number of children have approached me about wearing Winter Uniform. What will happen of course is that it is going to warm up and then get really cold. We always start wearing Winter Uniform from the beginning of May and this year will be no exception. Please get the uniforms ready.
We have decided that for this term we will join in celebrating our National Team by doing the “Bafana Friday”. As of today children will be allowed to wear a Bafana Soccer Shirt in support of “Our Team”. Unfortunately in order to ensure that this doesn’t get out of hand a number of rules have to be observed. We would encourage the wearing of the Bafana Soccer Shirt only. However we will allow a shirt of any other country that is participating in the world cup. These may be worn with a pair of jeans only and “track shoes”. Please note this is not a “civvies day” as such we are not charging and still expect all other school rules to apply. As it will be getting cold during this period pupils may wear a track suit over the soccer shirt, no other “hoodies”, beanies, etc may be worn.
God Bless
