Dear Parents

I would like to thank all those we attended the Mass that we held on Sunday last week.  It is always gratifying to see so many of our community wanting to share in the mystery of this special celebration with us.  We have about 4 or 5 of these special Masses during the course of the year.  Do not miss the next one which will be held in May on a date still to be confirmed.

There is a growing problem with litter around the campus.  In order to reinforce to the students that we are serious about getting their cooperation in this matter we are going to extend the school day by 15 minutes each day.  We are going to be doing this for twelve days starting on Monday 1st March.  The High School pupils will take it in turn, per class, to clear up the grounds.  I hope this is not going to be too inconvenient for parents collecting their children from school.  Should we find that there is no litter during this period the pupils will be let out at the normal time.  The collection will actually be done earlier in the day and lessons will then be extended until 14:15, so pupils will not be allowed to leave school early as they will still be in class with normal teaching taking place.  This will affect all HIGH SCHOOL PUPILS.

The second growing problem is that of pupils who are left waiting at the College until they are collected, which is sometimes very late.  Previously I have mentioned that some children have been left until 19:00 at night.  Last week I made mention of parents who had left their children at the College after the “V-Ball”.  The College already manages most of these children by making available a “Study Hall”.  Some children do not believe that they need to participate in this part of the school day.

I need parents to understand that at the moment we have varying groups of children who are left at the College until late. These children sometimes become noisy, loud, rude and destructive to both each other and to visitors to the College.  This kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable and is not tolerated.  We have decided to institute a separate punishment category for these children and should this behaviour become habitual, we would have no alternative but to ask you to remove your child from the College.  We can’t have staff on duty until this late hour making sure children are behaving.  There has to come a time when children become responsible for their own actions.  If your children fall into this category, please could you talk to your child now before we have to enforce this rule.

A reminder that next week Friday we have the Swimathon. I hope that all the sponsorship forms are in and we are looking forward to our first successful PTA event of the year.

As mentioned last week, we are still waiting for the last of the Code of Conduct letters to be returned.  If they are not back on Monday we will start issuing the accompanying points.

A reminder that on FRIDAY 26TH FEBRUARY, SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED.  It is the Annual Catholic Teachers Day so the staff will all be away on a conference and as a result there will be no school.

Our prayer for the Priest continues “Grant them wisdom to spread the Gospel and inspire them to work for your Kingdom.  Help them to be instruments of your divine grace and give them joy in their ministry.  We ask this through Jesus Christ, our eternal high priest.  Amen”

Yours truly
